Wanted to give an update... for those of you who don't know, Chuck is in a rehab center in Belleville, IL. We went to go visit him today and he seems to be doing great! They are working on weaning him off of his ventilator and have been doing some electrolysis for nerve stimulation. Please keep sending your positive thoughts and prayers his way!
Also, if you would like to go visit him let me know and I will send you the address.
Hi everyone. We created this blog to help the Davis family communicate updates on Chuck's progress and keep everyone in the loop for the upcoming benefit. We also thought the more people that know about Chuck, the more prayers that can be sent his way. We love you Chuck!

Update
Good morning. Just wanted to let everyone know that Chuck was released from the hospital, but due to insurance and other issues they are trying to work out he had to go a nursing home. He is sad that he wasn't able to go home and that he won't be able to make it to the benefit on Saturday. We would love to have a great turn-out so we can take pictures for him and try to lift his spirits a little.
We went to visit him a couple of days ago and he said that he spends most of his time trying to get his body working again. He can move his head again, has some feeling in his arms, can move his shoulder, and wiggle his fingers from time to time. The nursing home that he is going to will try to ween him off of his ventilator and will be doing some physical therapy with him so hopefully that will help him to improve continue to improve.

Update on Chuck
Chuck has been back in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, but should be able to come home soon. He is recovering from pneumonia and is currently quarantined because he tested positive for a bacteria that he can pass to others and because he has a weak immune system. He should be home in time for the event on Saturday so please come and see him and the rest of the Davis Family! :-)
Added a few things to the event flyer
Hey all! I've updated the flyer with some of the other fun activities that we will have on Saturday. Hope to see you there!

Updates for this week
This week has been a rough one for the Davis 7. On Tuesday Chasen broke his arm and yesterday Chuck was taken back to the hospital. They think that he either has a collapsed lung or pnuemonia or possibly both. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

El Shaddai Event - September 8th!
Info from Michele Shelly Mayer Blei that I thought I should add... I need some help pulling a benefit together for Loni and Chuck Davis! I have a venue - El Shaddai in Moscow Mills, MO on September 8 - outdoor fun for the whole family! Lake for swimming and fishing, sand volleyball, food, entertainment, etc. Details to follow. Please help me, friends! I need items to auction/raffle, singers/instrumentalists/dancers - there is a large stage and a covered pavilion; side dishes, soft drinks...you name it, we need it to help this family!
If you can help just let me know and I'll get you in touch with Shelly, thanks everyone!
Getting a little better!
Sorry for the delay in posting new information. I talked to Loni this past weekend and she told me that Chuck is able to move his shoulder a bit! He has been home for almost 2 weeks now and seems to be getting stronger. He was even able to go to church!
There will be another fundraising event for the family that is being organized by the wonderful Shelly Mayer. I will post info on that shortly.
*Update- Just talked to Loni and she said that Chuck has been able to move his fingers a few times in the past couple of days! What great news! Way to go Chuck! The prayers are working :)

Prayers
Hello all,
Chuck was admitted to the hospital last week and was able to come home this past weekend. I just got a call that Chuck is being taken back to the hospital, they believe he has an embolism (I'm guessing a pulmonary embolism). Please send some prayers his way and keep them coming.

Update
Hi all, sorry it's been a while since an update has been posted but not a lot of changes to report. They ran a test on Chuck a couple of weeks back to see if he was a candidate for a new type of surgery to implant a brain stem stimulator to control his breathing. Unfortunately, they determined that he is not a candidate. So, for now, he will have to stay on the ventilator.
Loni leaves on Wednesday to get trained on how to care for Chuck so he can come home at the end of June. Chuck will need 24 hour care and you have to be certified in order to legally take care of him. For any friend or family member that is a Nurse or CNA and would be able to help Loni every now and then let me know. I'm sure she will need help so she can run to the store or any of the other million things a mom needs to do.
Also, they are trying to figure out a way to convert their 3rd garage into a room that can accommodate Chuck's bed and wheelchair. They will also need to redo the downstairs bathroom and add an area to the main level for him to do his rehab. The hospital will send Chuck home, but will not send his bed or wheelchair until there is space for it to go. So if you or anyone you know can donate your time to help Loni get the house ready for Chuck please let me know. He is supposed to be home in 2 weeks so we need to get started asap. Loni had a few people back out on her, that is why we didn't ask for help sooner...

Loni's visit to Chicago
(Yesterday) Leaving Chicago...and my baby :'(. He is on oxygen again with the vent and treak still. But is able to eat and talk. It was SO good to see him and be able to hug and kiss on him, can't wait for the 46 days till he his home and in my arms again. Love you babe...keep up the good work!
Loni also said that Chuck is regaining a little more feeling so keep on praying!!! They will be running tests today to see if he is a candidate for a surgery to help with his breathing. They have the ability to insert a device that can act as a type of nerve stimulator to make his lungs work again.... I hope I'm explaining that right!

Some more updates from Mary
She went to visit Chuck today in the post-ICU and said they now have him in a recliner instead of a bed laying down all the time. They had him standing for a little while, but his blood pressure dropped. He was exhausted and not feeling the best, but she said that he looked good.
If you go to visit him now you will park in the North Garage near the Center for Advanced Medicine.
Please keep the Davis family in your prayers!

Great news!!!!!
Some updates from Loni... He had a great day yesterday! He is still on life support (breathing machine) but he was able to breath 16 times a minute yesterday for hours, so they are hoping they can get him off the machine soon. And he was able to sit up yesterday and held up well. The bed he is in turns into a chair and he had support for his back to keep him up but he was able to tolerate it which is a good sign for him to be in a wheelchair later on. It is still day by day but that is a huge leap for him. Keep the prayers coming....THEY ARE WORKING!!!

Updates on Chuck
I talked to Loni last night and she said Chuck had not been feeling well the past few days. They found bleeding in his stomach caused by his feeding tube. They were able to repair it so, hopefully, that helps him to feel better and heal faster. Chuck's lungs are still having a hard time with the ventilator and are trying to reject it. Loni did say that he asks for her to move his ankle and foot around and that it feels good. We're thinking that's a good sign that he can feel it!!! They are still waiting on the swelling on his spine to go down to see if that helps him regain some more feeling.
He will be getting a new tracheotomy that will allow him to talk and eat so when he is a little more stable they will be moving him to a rehab center. The facilities that specialize in this type of rehab are out of state though. Chicago and Atlanta are some options, Loni said since they are transferring him via ambulance that they will probably go with Chicago so he doesn't have to make such a long trip. Doctors have said the damage in his spine and brain stem is pretty substantial, so please keep him in your prayers. God is greater than any diagnoses!

Prayers
Chuck had some more tests ran yesterday and doctors are almost positive that he had a stroke in his brain stem and not Guillain-Barre syndrome. For now they don't know how much of a recovery he will make because there was a fair amount of damage. He still has some swelling on his spine, so they are hopeful that when that goes down he will regain some of the feeling in his body. Chuck is still not able to breathe on his own and is paralyzed from the neck down, but he has some feeling in his arm and chest.
Please, keep the prayers coming. Chuck, Loni, and their boys need all that they can get right now. Someone posted a comment on the post below this one last night. It is a great reminder that you have to stay positive and believe that God is always there with you.

Updates for March 21
Since writing the last post Chuck has been transported to a different hospital. One that will hopefully be able to shed some more light on what is happening. Loni has been informed that they do not believe Chuck has Guillain-Barre syndrome. Instead, they think that he may have had what is the equivalent to a heart attack on his brain stem. Chuck is now off his breathing tube and has gotten a tracheotomy to help with his breathing. That should allow him to communicate better, and we all know Chuck likes to talk!
We are working on organizing a benefit for them. We plan to have a silent auction and could use donations for baskets or just individual items. If you have anything that you could donate please let us know. The benefit is scheduled for April 28th, so we are in a bit of a time crunch. You can contact me (Amanda) through this blog. I will have the benefit flyer posted on here as soon as it's finished and also will keep you updated on Chuck's progress.
I know that Loni and Chuck appreciate the support of their friends and family. Please keep the prayers coming!
We are working on organizing a benefit for them. We plan to have a silent auction and could use donations for baskets or just individual items. March 16
Chuck and Loni had just celebrated their 6th anniversary by enjoying a second honeymoon in Tennessee. On the morning of March 16th Chuck woke up with pain in his chest and was having trouble breathing. Loni rushed him to the hospital and within a few hours Chuck was admitted to the ICU, on a ventilator, and paralyzed from the neck down. Doctor's were unsure what was wrong with him, they just knew that they needed to figure it out quickly. After running multiple tests they decided to start treating him for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but weren't positive that was it. Since Friday Chuck has been on a ventilator and only able to communicate by blinking his eyes. It was confirmed that Chuck does have Guillain-Barre syndrome.
Guillain-Barre syndrome is a disorder in which your body's immune system attacks your nerves. Weakness and tingling in your extremities are usually the first symptoms. These sensations can quickly spread, eventually paralyzing your whole body. The exact cause of Guillain-Barre syndrome is unknown, but it is often preceded by an infectious illness such as a respiratory infection or the stomach flu. Luckily, Guillain-Barre syndrome is uncommon, affecting only 1 or 2 people per 100,000. There's no known cure for Guillain-Barre syndrome, but several treatments can ease symptoms and reduce the duration of the illness. Most people recover from Guillain-Barre syndrome, though some may experience lingering effects from it, such as weakness, numbness or fatigue.
This hit them out of nowhere and as of right now, they just have to wait and see how things go. There is no way to tell how long Chuck will be hospitalized, but we are all praying that he recovers quickly so he can get back to his family. Those of you that know Chuck know that he is a fantastic husband and an even better father to his five boys, Alex (14), Chasen (12), Brandon (10), C4 (4), and Emry (1).
Worries about finances should be the last thing Loni and Chuck should have to think about. We are working on holding a benefit auction for their family. If you have items that you would like to donate please contact us. If you would prefer to make a monetary donation you can do so through this blog. Loni will also be setting up a donation account through her bank. I will post that information as soon as it becomes available.
Prayers for a full recovery are greatly appreciated.
